Experience the artistry of one of the most beloved cellists of all time. This breathtaking concert led by Maestro Daniele Gatti marks the return of master cellist Yo-Yo Ma (after twenty years) to the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra performing Shostakovich’s intense First Cello Concerto. Recorded live in 2015 at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, Gatti juxtaposes the first part of the concerto with two popular works from the Russian dance tradition: Tchaikovsky’s "The Nutcracker Suite" made famous partly as a result of the Disney film Fantasia and Stravinsky’s “The Firebird Suite”, which evokes an exotic atmosphere.
