Choreographer John Neumeier premiered his acclaimed version of A Midsummer Night's Dream in 1977 and the production has been a part of Hamburg Ballet's repertory ever since. Based on the play by William Shakespeare, Neumeier interprets the events as a dream of dance characterized by three worlds, with three different corresponding musical moods and settings. Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy's famous score A Midsummer Night's Dream, Op. 61 reflects the world of mortals in the Royal household. György Ligeti's entrancing soundscape embraces the realm of the fairy kingdom; and Puck's crew of laborers and servants is accompanied by the mechanical music of a barrel organ. Stage Access Host Kelsey Grammer provides an exclusive introduction.
