Pagliacci is a 1982 Italian film of Ruggero Leoncavallo's opera Pagliacci, directed by Franco Zeffirelli. Filmed at Milan's La Scala opera house, the cast stars Plácido Domingo, Teresa Stratas and Juan Pons. The story is set in southern Italy and recounts the tragedy of Canio, the lead clown (pagliaccio in Italian) in a commedia dell'arte troupe, his wife Nedda, and her lover, Silvio. The opera is known for its powerful and dramatic music, including the famous tenor aria "Vesti la giubba" (Put on a costume), where Canio expresses his pain and despair driven by the discovery of Nedda's betrayal.
