First staged in 1973 by legendary choreographer Yuri Grigorovich, this new production of “The Sleeping Beauty”, based on original choreography by Marius Petipa to the music by Tchaikovsky, is the first ballet performed on the newly reconstructed stage of the historical Bolshoi Theatre. As the curtain lifts, audiences are delighted by a 17th-century palace with rich decoration by set designer Ezio Frigerio and more than 400 new costumes by Oscar-winning designer Franca Squarciapino to bring the fairytale to life. The breathtaking production from 2011 stars world-renowned principal Svetlana Zakharova as Princess Aurora and American superstar dancer David Hallberg as Prince Désiré also celebrating his Bolshoi debut.
