Alonzo King’s Scheherazade reimagines the storytelling tradition of One Thousand and One Nights, a classic of Persian and Arabic literature, through a contemporary choreographic lens. Performed by Alonzo King LINES Ballet, the work explores transformation, resilience, and the enduring power of voice—the chance to listen to a voice that can change our lives and the power of art to illuminate all the chambers of our hearts. Set to a score by Grammy Award–winning tabla master Zakir Hussain, inspired by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov’s Scheherazade, the ballet blends musical traditions to create a richly layered soundscape for King’s fluid and expressive choreography.
